Happy birthday poster
The Happy birthday poster shows a group of eight Polyglot characters gathered around a cake smiling and calling out ‘Happy birthday’ in the target language. The cake has a space for a name to be written to celebrate the birthdays of the children in your class.
Here are some ideas for using the poster.
For the wall
- Print and cut out the candles on this page.
- Print the poster in A3 or A4, and cut out, laminate and display it in your learning space.
- When it is one of the children’s birthdays, use a whiteboard marker to write their name on the cake.
- Attach the correct number of candles to the cake.
- The child, or all the children together, can count the candles in your chosen language.
- Practise saying ‘Happy birthday’ in your chosen language to the birthday child throughout the day.
As a take-home poster, card or certificate
- Print the poster.
- The child can cut out and paste on, or draw on, the correct number of candles for their age.
- Encourage the child to count the candles in your chosen language.
- The child can write their name on the cake.
- The birthday child can take home the poster to share with their family.
Note: With some families, you may need to be mindful of any cultural sensitivities around the celebration of their child’s birthday.
