Ready, set, go! game

Ready, set, go! game

Instructions

Ready, set, go! is a turn-taking game that encourages children to use the language of numbers (one to six) and the language for actions (walk, run, jump), in your chosen language.

The game also provides opportunities for the children to develop their fine and gross motor skills.

Before you begin, cut out the Polyglot character tokens or gather some coloured game counters. You will also need a dice with written numerals or dots to represent the numbers.

Description: 7 Polyglot character tokens to be cut out for use in the game.

How to play

  1. Place the tokens or counters on the arrow to start the game.
  2. The children take turns to throw the dice and move their chosen counter the allocated number of spaces.
  3. Encourage the children to say the number rolled and to count in your chosen language as they move their counter along the board.
  4. If they land on a blank space, the game moves to the next player’s turn.
  5. If they land on an action space, the children say the name of the action in your chosen language and complete that action. This may involve walking/running/jumping around the table or mat, or doing the action on the spot.
  6. The game ends when somebody crosses the finish line.
