At the Concert

App 11 overview

At the Concert

The Polyglots at the Concert is set in an Art Deco-style concert venue where the Polyglots are involved in various performances. Students will learn the vocabulary for the days of the week and o'clock times with some extension to half-past times. They will also learn questions such as 'What time?', 'What day?', 'What's the time?' and 'Where?'

Language learning features

  • Repetition: Words are repeated in meaningful contexts, providing many opportunities to hear the language.
  • Visual cues: Visual cues and gestures are aligned with spoken language to reinforce and emphasise meaning. The app uses the interactive functionality of the tablet.
  • Production: children have opportunities to produce the language. The learning experiences encourage children to mimic and play with sounds, words and short phrases.

Cultural references

Language learning experts emphasise the importance of linking language to culture. To inspire children’s curiosity about Greek culture, the learning experiences feature cultural items and characters from Greece. Some of the cultural items can be found in other apps.

Unique learning experiences

Each school community is unique. Teachers will find a variety of ways to apply the learning experiences in The Polyglots at the Concert to a particular child, group of children, school or community.

Links to the Australian Curriculum

Each of the learning experiences in The Polyglots at the Concert is aligned to the Australian Curriculum: Languages, for Foundation to Year 2.
