Go to School

App 8 overview

Go to School

The Polyglots Go to School is set in a vibrant Australian school. It provides opportunities for children in early primary to learn language commonly heard at school. Students learn words for familiar classroom objects, and verbs and phrases for providing and following instructions.

Language learning features

  • Repetition: Words are repeated in meaningful contexts, providing many opportunities to hear the language.
  • Visual cues: Visual cues and gestures are aligned with spoken language to reinforce and emphasise meaning. The app uses the interactive functionality of the tablet.
  • Production: children have opportunities to produce the language. The learning experiences encourage children to mimic and play with sounds, words and short phrases.

Cultural references

Language learning experts emphasise the importance of linking language to culture. To inspire children’s curiosity about Arabic-speaking cultures, the learning experiences feature cultural items and characters from Arabic-speaking countries. Some of the cultural items can be found in other apps.

Unique learning experiences

Each school community is unique. Teachers will find a variety of ways to apply the learning experiences in The Polyglots Go to School to a particular child, group of children, school or community.

Links to the Australian Curriculum

Each of the learning experiences in The Polyglots Go to School is aligned to the Australian Curriculum: Languages, for Foundation to Year 2.
